Get Curious

"Curiosity killed the cat" or did it?

The sun shining on your back, you walk through the tall vegetation listening to that noise. There it is again, you pivot right and head in its direction. Your bare feet feeling every blade as you approach. Sweat starts to bead on your lip and brow. Where is that noise coming from and what does it belong to?!

Do you remember? The eagerness building up in the pit of your stomach. The tightness in your chest coming from the excitement of what if or what is? That tender age when most things were a DISCOVERY. When being curious was ENCOURAGED.

When curiosity was JUST TOO MUCH and you had to flip the switch to the thing only your parents could use!

Once upon a time, Curiosity meant DISCOVERY. A new beginning! An ADVENTURE! And we all cherished it.

Then something along the way of life happenned. Curiosity somehow blended with FEAR.

FEAR, often acronymed as F#$K Everything And Run, now rules most decisions you make or DON'T make.

What if FEAR becomes Face Evaluate Adjust Reflect?

What if we leaned into Curiosity once again?

What would you discover?

Perhaps that job really isn't meaningful.

Perhaps that relationship is just not built on a strong foundation.

Perhaps that reflection in the mirror is someone else's version of happy.

Perhaps your child has been trying to communicate something to you and you've not been listening.

Perhaps your truth might catch a breath. What if it does? What is it going to say to you?

Yes being curious is difficult and it is plagued with fear for most of us.

BUT, what lies beyond the curiosity and fear is GROWTH.

Instead of placating your child because they became upset about a decision you made in the best interest of the family, maybe you become CURIOUS as to why they are reacting to your decision this way.

Maybe this gives your child a voice they never felt was heard.

Maybe it builds a better relationship with them.

And MAYBE, just MAYBE, the decision you "KNEW" was in the best interest of the family really was for YOU all along and did not consider everyone else in the family.

Perhaps you allow your true feelings to express themselves and realize there's this whole life ahead you were just too scared to look into.

Perhaps you decide to take that class everyone told you wasn't for you.

Perhaps you ask that person out for coffee and meet your soul mate or maybe you just make a friend, or maybe even you meet someone you decide isn't for you. Either way you learn something about yourself and you move the needle forward.

Perhaps you give that apology that is long overdue.

Maybe you have that conversation you've been avoiding because you get curious and you discover that in it lies the explanation to the whole mess and you rekindle something you lost.

In any case I encourage you to become Curious.

Get Curious about your self.

Get Curious about your friends, partners, spouses.

Get Curious about your kids.

Get Curious about life.

FLIP THAT SWITCH!

PRESS THE BUTTON!

DO it with honesty, genuineness, empathy and a great deal of non judgement. Because if you do, you will open a whole new level in life.

So perhaps "Curiosity did Kill the cat" but perhaps it might give you LIFE?
